MIGRATING DATAGATE TO NEW SERVER
This applies if you are currently running a DataGate and have historical
records and you wish to change servers.
The best approach to
migrating the server is as follows:
- Keep old DataGate
running until noted in the steps below, to minimize down time.
- Run setup program to
install DataGate, then overwrite exe file with latest version.
- Copy the c:\program
files\datagate\datagate.ini file from old server to new.
- Run DataGate on the
new server then enter user information and request a license. Wait for an
email stating that the license has been updated - this is currently done
manually at our end, so there will be some delay. Once email is received,
request license again, and check you get a Got license OK response. Close
the license screen and then quickly quit the new DataGate application to
prevent it receiving data while old server is still running.
- Make note of the old
data and log folders used by the old DataGate. These are listed on the
View/Options/Data Storage menu. Create these folders on the new machine.
- The following steps
are time critical if you want to minimize down time.
- Close old DataGate.
- Copy all files from
the data and log folders on the old server to the new server. You can
overwrite any log files existing on the new server, which would have been
generated during the initial licensing process.
- If you are using a
separate database you may or may not need to move this to the new machine.
If it is running on another machine, ensure the new server can see it.
- Run new DataGate.
Check that it loads files and database OK.
