DataNET FleetSync

DataNET is compatible with Kenwood's FleetSync data protocol. Including FleetSync over Passport. The following information provides an overview and additional detail on how to configure DataGate to link to one or more radio networks running Fleetsync data.

A unique feature of DataGate is the ability to link multiple remote mobile radio sites hundreds or thousands of miles apart though a central hub.

Kenwood Source, a software module developed by Datalink Systems Inc routes the Fleetsync data between the base radios and the DataGate central router. The Kenwood Source program can be installed in the same computer as the DataGate server software. The computer connects to the base radio via a serial port and cable. The Kenwood Source program can also be installed in one or more remote locations where a radio network may be isolated from the base network. All that is required at the remote location is a computer with an Internet link, or if that is not available, a low cost satellite link can be used to connect remote Kenwood Source programs to the remote DataGate router

SETTING UP KENWOOD SOURCE

Kenwood Source can be found on the DataNET CD, or can be obtained from Datalink Systems Inc. at no cost as an add on to the DataGate IP packet router.  It has to be installed on each computer connected to the FleetSync base radio. After the program is installed, click on "view" then "options" which will open a pop up window as seen below. If the Kenwood source program is installed in the same computer as the DataGate program the IP Address will be 127.0.0.1   If the DataGate is in a remote computer, the IP address will be the static IP address assigned to the DataGate computer. Port setting should not be changed unless there is a port conflict.  Enter a password for security purposes. The Password is normally provided by the administrator of the DataGate router. The COM settings may be changed to match the serial COM port which the Radio is connected to.

Up to 99 status messages can be programmed to correspond  to the Radio messaging options.

When the set-up is complete, the Kenwood Source program will attempt to connect to the DataGate. If the Datagate has been set up to accept data from the Kenwood Source program and the passwords match  the program will show "connected".   When data is transmitted to, or received from mobile radios, the data will appear on the Kenwood Source screen as a visual indication of successful transmission.

SETTING UP DATAGATE FOR FLEETSYNC

Click on the truck in the upper left corner of the DataGate screen. A small window will pop up. The DataGate I.D. number assigned to the mobile device by the DataGate administrator is entered here. Number range is 1.1.1 to 255.255.255

After the number is entered, click on "OK" to complete the new device entry.

In the DataGate "Device ID" column, select the device you added and double click on the line. The following window will pop up.  Change the description (which will initially show the number you assigned)  to a more functional name.  Under "Device Type" select Kenwood Fleetsync.

Now select  "Modem" on the menu bar. Enter the Group and Unit ID assigned under the FleetSync set-up in the Radio.

Now select the Kenwood Source name assigned to the local or remote program.  If there is only one Kenwood Source running on the same computer as DataGate, that would normally be assigned "Local" as the name. If multiple Kenwood Source programs are running they can be assigned as Site-1 Site-2, or a City name if FleetSync radio networks are running in various cities.

This completes the FleetSync set-up.  Please refer to the DataGate and DataHost Manuals for more general information on the operation of DataNET.
